On 13th October 1948, Khan opened his eyes to a Punjabi family in Faisalabad. This city is honored that the King of Qawwali, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, belonged to this city. His family hails from Jalandhar from Basti Sheikh. Faiz Ahmed Faiz was a celebrated qawwali singer and poet considered one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century.

Family

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the nephew of the famous qawwali singer Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and the son of traditional qawwal and devotional singer Ustad Fateh Ali Khan. His family has a long history of qawwali music, the Muslim Sufis’ devotional music. NFAK had several siblings, one of them is also a qawwal, Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan. He has also trained his sons, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, to carry on the family tradition of qawwali music. Rizwan & Muazzam also belong to the Family of NFAK.

Education

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born into a family of classical Qawwali singers. He learned the art of Qawwali from his father and uncle. Also, he received training in the traditional style of qawwali music from his family. He was considered a master in the art of Qawwali. NFAK was also well-versed in other genres of music, such as classical music and ghazals. He had a deep understanding of the spiritual message behind the lyrics of Qawwali. NFAK was a respected musician and singer, and his music was enjoyed by audiences worldwide. He died in a car accident in 2004 at the age of 54.

Nusrat FAteh Ali Khan Death

Khan was a 48-year-old Pakistani who had recently been diagnosed with kidney and liver ailments and had been advised to travel to London for treatment. On 16th August 1997, Khan died of a heart attack at Cromwell Hospital in London. His body was flown back to his hometown of Faisalabad, and his funeral was attended by a large crowd. Khan was buried in Jhang Graveyard, also known as Kabotraan Wala Qabristaan, on Jhang Road in Faisalabad. After Khan’s death, his wife Naheed and his only daughter Nida settled in Canada.
